Instead of serving my nation with a gun I prefered a more peacefull method.
For approximately a hundred Austrians a year it is possible to fullfill
their alternative service abroad.
From July 2004 to October 2005 I worked for 14 months with the KWAHO
in Kenya.
KWAHO (www.kwaho.org) is the organisation
I worked with.
Initiated in 1976 as a UNICEF Water for Health Project as a result of
the Women's Conference (Mexico 1975) for the long distances rural women
must often walk to collect drinking water. 1983 KWAHO was registered as
an indigenous NGO
Prime objective: assisting Kenyan communities to access water within manageable
distances to allow women to attend properly to the other needs of their
family and community from the time gained.
Targets of the KWAHO are to offer partnership to disadvantaged communities
to improve their social and economic standards by facilitating the provision
of
